How to Cast Stronger Voodoo Spells

In the case of simulacra magic, as in the use of voodoo dolls, many magical practitioners fail achieve strong results. Then they think that voodoo magic doesn’t work. Not so. However, there are reasons that simulacra magic does not work as well as it should. Normally, there are three reasons that simulacra magic doesn’t produce as strong a result as it should.

1. The Voodoo Object Is Not Similar Enough to the Real Thing

As the name implies, simulacra magic means that the object used in the spell should be as “similar” as possible to the object of the spell. If, for instance, you are going to use a simulacrum in a map spell, to move a naughty neighbor out of your area, then your best bet is to choose a “voodoo doll” that is as similar to your neighbor in looks and personality as possible. If your neighbor is tall, gaunt, and hunched, then look for a figurine that is tall, gaunt, and hunched over. A short fat figurine won’t work, nor will a ballerina figurine. It always amazes me how many people pick any old figurine to use for a voodoo spell. If you want to cast stronger voodoo spells, be very specific about the object used as the simulacrum.

2. The Material of the Voodoo Doll or Object Won’t Hold a Key

“Keying” is the magical process by which you connect the object of a simulacra spell to the object it represents in the real world. For instance, in the case of the map spell, keying is the process by which you connect the figurine to your naughty neighbor. Assuming that you have chosen a figurine that closely matches your neighbor in looks and personality, you next must be sure that the figurine is made of a material that will hold the “key,” or connection to the real world person.

Materials such as wood, metal, glass, and ceramic work well. Plastic, rubber, and modern composites tend not to hold a key. If you want to cast stronger voodoo spells, make sure your voodoo doll or object is made of the right materials. Once an object is cleansed, it’s ready for use in spellwork, and you avoid any “side bands” that might have been generated from previous handling of the object.

This allows my subconscious mind, the powerhouse within, to come to the fore and speak in whatever way it chooses. Usually what comes out is completely abstract and incomprehensible to human ears, but is fully understood by the spirits (or the deeper powers of our own minds); for it is their language – the tongue of angels, demons and fairy.

Once you have finished your chant, wrap the doll and parchment paper in the white cloth and place between two white candles.

Burn the candles each morning (replacing them as necessary) until the patient has made a full recovery.

At that point, you can dispose of the doll. You should also make a point of thanking the spirits for their help. You could also leave them an offering of some kind – fruit, herbs, liquor, milk, or whatever seems appropriate (use your intuition in this matter).

Doktor Snake’s Voodoo Spellbook is a little grimoire that I have had my eye on since I first heard about the author in alt.lucky.w. (See Links Below) Considering the dubious nature of Doktor Snake’s sources and the information given, I finally decided to purchase his book and form my own opinion.

The book itself measures roughly 8 X 8 inches and has been created in the style of a coffee-table book. Although mine came from the publisher brand new in its original packaging I was disappointed to see that it is in less than pristine condition given the burn mark (which faintly resembles a cigarette burn) on the back of the book. In addition the book comes with a Lucky Mojo Doll which can be seen here. There is no doubt in my mind that the name of the doll was either a slap in the face to the work of Cat Yronwode and an effort to capitalize on the success of the Lucky Mojo Curio Company.

Scattered throughout the book are various illustrations that lends the material given a sense of quaintness. However, I felt that they neither add nor detract from the text but merely increased the book’s total number of pages.

Despite the book’s misleading title, the subject of Doktor Snake’s Voodoo Spellbook is not Voodoo but rather Hoodoo. The author purports to have been taught much of his knowledge by Earl Marlowe a Blues Musician from Trinidad with whom Doktor Snake played guitar in a band. According to Doktor Snake, Earle looked to be in his 60’s but claimed to have been 127 years old. Earl had learned about Hoodoo in the Carribbean and the Southern United States where he had lived before coming to live in England. In addition, Doktor Snake goes on to quote other authors on the subject of Hoodoo such as Zora Neal Hurston and Roger Pinckney.

Whereas the author has been accused of outright plagiarism I myself cannot cite any specific passage that I have seen in another work in its entirety. In once instance, the author recalls a rather famous story concerning the High Sheriff J.E. McTeer (which can also be found in Pinckney’s Blue Roots) going out to the home of a bedridden woman who believes herself to be cursed. The High Sheriff buries a root in her yard under cover of darkness only to return the following day and ‘psychically’ finds the root and destroys it thus curing the woman of her curse.

In Docktor Snake’s version, the Sheriff is aided by Dr. Crow (another rootwoker). I am from South Carolina. I have lived in the city of Beaufort. I have heard many stories concerning the High Sheriff and I can say that I have never heard of the High Sheriff working with other root doctors. In fact, he often worked against them as a law enforcement officer and as a rootworker himself. While I admit that I can be wrong, I can find no source that states otherwise (other than a mention of a Dr. Crow in Blue Roots) and Doktor Snake does not cite his source for the story.

That being said I found Doktor Snake’s book to be a decent general overview of the subject of Hoodoo intermixed with his personal anecdotes. I myself did not learn anything that I didn’t already know from this book, however it may be useful to someone interested in following the Hoodoo Tradition. Nonetheless, I would caution anyone new to Hoodoo to avoid this book until they have read at least three books by more reputable authors.

At the top of the list, you want to make sure you are in the right frame of mind. Learning any spell takes lots of concentration. So if you are tired, don’t even try it. You probably want to wait until you are wide awake and refreshed or when your concentration is at its best. Some people are day people and others are night people. Pick a time that is best for you.

You want to look at the spell that you’re attempting to learn and place it either in the black magic or white magic category. The reason for this is because each type of spell requires a different ritual and mindset. Black magic is much darker and, if not done properly, a lot more dangerous, whereas white magic, as a rule, is easier and not nearly as dangerous if something goes wrong.

You want to make sure that you have all the items that you need for learning any spell prepared in advance. This includes any dolls, powder, pins and so on. You don’t want to go around scrounging for these things while you’re in the actual process of learning the spells. It’s not good for the concentration.

Finally, you want to start with the easy spells first. As with anything else, you don’t want to begin with things that are more difficult. For example, when learning to play the piano, you don’t try playing a Chopin Etude before you even learned to play a simple C major scale. Some spells, especially black magic spells, are especially difficult. You don’t want to start with these for two reasons. The first is that there is a greater probability that something will go wrong. The second is that you want to build up as much confidence as possible. By starting with the easier spells, you give yourself the best chance to do this.

There is a lot of good that Voodoo can do, including actually healing people of their sins and diseases. If one goes into the learning of this discipline looking only for the bad and to cause harm, they are missing the whole point and missing a big part of the Voodoo faith.

Voodoo is actually a religion to many people, no different to them than Christianity or Judaism.
